Used Soalr Panels: What You Should Know Before You Buy
By:

Buying used solar panels is a great way to reduce the high cost of going solar at home. However it is important to understand what you are getting before you jump into a purchase. Thats because solar installation projects are all different not all panels are the same. Projects can vary by the amount of energy you need to generate the location of the project and how much direct sunlight it gets.

As for used solar panels the age condition type and prior usage history must all be taken into account before deciding whether or not the panel is right for the project.

So what is the best way to judge used solar panels To put it simply a solar panel is just a series of individual solar cells connected together inside a shallow frame. Energy from sunlight is collected by these cells and is moved along through the panel and out into the system. Panels with higher numbers of cells can usually but not always collect more energy and that corresponds to a higher wattage rating for that panel.

Even new solar panels are only usually warranted to produce some number below the stated wattage (for example a 200 watt panel may only be warranted to 180 watts). This is good information to have when evaluating a used panel. Efficiency rating is also important because it describes the amount of energy per square inch that the cells will produce. This matters because a larger panel with a lower efficiency rating may often output less power than a smaller panel with a higher efficiency rating. More efficiency means less roof space is needed to generate the power you need.

Solar energy systems use an inverter which is responsible for changing the energy to alternating current (AC) from direct current (DC). Inverters are rated for efficiency as well. A higher rated inverter will lose less of the generated power than will a lower rated inverter. So it is important to remember that the inverter used will also ultimately impact the final performance of the panels.

The age and usage history of the panels should also be considered. Each solar panel has an expected lifespan and is usually guaranteed for 25 years when purchased new. Solar panels should be expected to lose performance after being placed into service and as a general comparison. This is something to keep in mind when evaluating used solar panels for sale.

Just a few bad purchase can end up costing you a lot of wasted money in the long run while buying the correct used solar panels for your project can drastically reduce the cost of installing solar power in any home.
